F. E. Hardart was the byline of Florence Elizabeth “Flossie” Hardart, a fan and minor pro active in the 1930s and ’40s. She wrote locs to fanzines, among them Harry Warner, Jr.’s Spaceways, belonged to the QSFL and attended the First Worldcon in 1939.
Flossie was born in Akron, OH. She had four husbands: Ray P. Currey (1935); Arthur James Murphy (1939–41?), Ray Jordan (1946–48?) and James Roy Sheehan (1959–72). (Her second husband attended Nycon with her in 1939, registering as A. J. Murphy.) She became a mechanical engineer, spent time in the U.S. Air Force Corps of Engineers, and later taught at a number of universities. She ended up in Alameda, CA.
