Steve Takacs was a New York fan active early enough that he was a member of Denvention in 1940. He ran an sf bookstore, Stephen's Book Service, in Manhattan in the 1950s and ’60s, and was well known for kvetching that business was bad.

He attended Worldcons and contributed to such fanzines as the Science Fiction Yearbook.

He was married to Ronnie Takacs; they had three children; and all were in attendance at Nycon II in 1956, where he had a huckster table. In 1981, Denvention Two’s list of Denvention I members reported that he had died, without saying how they knew.
