Albert J. Lewis (the West Coast Al Lewis), an LA fan, was co-editor of Shangri L'Affaires, and chaired Westercon 15. He was mainly active in the ’50s and ’60s. He was a member of LASFS (and served as an officer), the ISL, and the N3F. He was a member of FAPA, OMPA, N'APA, and APA-L.

He was the first winner of the Evans-Freehafer Trophy. He was a member of the PanPacificon Worldcon bid committee. He was one of the seven people at DeepSouthCon 1.
