Ira Mitchel “Mitch” Thornhill, a longtime Southern fan, was active in fandom since the 1970s, when he lived in New Orleans. He organized the Southern Fried Fandom Gil Gaier Transport Fund in 1978. He belonged to SFPA.

During the ’80s, he lived in the Bozo Bus Building in Minneapolis and was a member of Minn-Stf. He later moved back to New Orleans.

A native of Mississippi, to which he returned later in life, Mitch attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA. In mundane life, he was a nurse. He was an aficionado of roller derby and played the cowbells.
