Beryl Mercer

(1924 -- 12 October 2003)

Beryl (Henley) Mercer was active and influential in the BSFA and British fandom of the 60s and early 70s. She wrote some reviews for the BSFA fanzine Vector and con reports, sometimes in conjunction with her husband, Archie Mercer. (In the early 60s, she published an article in Point of View on new fans' gripes about the BSFA; the opposing viewpoint was written by one Archie Mercer.)

She handled publications at Briscon in 1967 and was initiated as a Knight of St. Fantony in 1968 as well as winning a Doc Weir Award in 1969. She was a member of Kinkay Fandom and was on the Yarcon committee. She published DEC 27th, 1968 about the Apollo 8 mission and later the Moon-Shot Oneshot. She co-edited many other fanzines, including The Damned Patrol, The Once and Future Worm, The Middle Earthworm, Grimwab, Oz, Link, and Mercatorial Annual.
