A hoax bid for Roswell, NM, run by a group of LA fans: Liz Mortensen, Jordan Brown, Kim Marks Brown, Ed Green, Bruce Pelz and Elayne Pelz.
In spite of being on the site selection ballot, they lost. See 2002 Worldcon Site Selection for details.
They collected pre-supporting memberships and announced that, after all expenses were paid, any surplus would be donated to the SETI Institute.
