Bill Courval, Jr., a "promising younger fan" from San Diego, committed suicide while in the U.S. Army a few days after New Year's 1959, a sort of culmination to the Year of the Jackpot. He shot himself in his 1949 Hudson, parked at the side of the road.
He was a member of The Cult.
