Brian Varley was a long-time British fan who made contact with fandom in 1952, attended the Medcon in 1953 and worked on the 1954 Supermancon and the 1965 London Worldcon, Loncon II. He wrote a regular column for Ethel Lindsay's Scottishe as Machiavarley, a nickname bestowed on him by Walt Willis. Varley maintained some fan contacts in the twenty-first century, for example publishing a letter in Peter Weston's Prolapse #11 (May 2008). He died from Covid-19.
